Capitalia was an Italian banking group headquartered in Rome. Capitalia was formed in July 2002 in a merger of Banca di Roma, Bipop Carire, and Banco di Sicilia. Capitalia in turn agreed to be taken over by Unicredit in May 2007, becoming part of the second-largest bank in the European Union and the sixth-largest in the world. Capitalia was a Public limited company, and it was led by the President Cesare Geronzi and the CEO Paolo Fiorentino following the resignation of Matteo Arpe. Its General Manager was Carmine Lamanda.
